MUSLIMS prohibited from LEAVING ISLAM?

POLITICAL PARTY WANTS TO STOP MUSLIMS QUITTING ISLAM

By CAROLYN HG

=== THE opposition Islamic party is planning to table a private Bill in Parliament to forbid Muslims from leaving the religion as it is convinced that there are thousands who are already on the verge of doing so.

Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) youth chief Salahuddin Ayub told The Straits Times that the party believes the situation is “very serious” and puts the number at more than 250,000.

The claim cannot be verified but last month, the Mufti of Perak, Harussani Zakaria, a government- appointed religious leader, also quoted the same figure.

An official from the federal Islamic religious department, when contacted, said it could be based on applications to the registration department for a name change in identity cards.

A name change is sometimes perceived as a step towards conversion.

  1. Captain Obvious Says:

    Muslims aren’t all that bad.

  2. Elvis Says:

Once you convert of your own free-will, only way to leave Islam is by death alone

  3. nondescript Says:

Most religions prohibit people from leaving.

Luckily, in the US we’ve separated church from state, so it is not enforced by the government.

  4. Mark Highmind Says:

What do you expect from a religion that keeps the majority of their people locked inteh 8th century?

  5. Argumentative Says:

In Muslim dominated countries, anyone who converts is subject to execution, often by family members.

  6. Jovy T Says:

Why hold them back? They will become a non-practising muslim, it will become more problematic.
There are also quite a number of non-Malays who convert to Muslim in M’sia just for personal gain and advantage.
What’s the point of keeping these people who don’t believes anymore?
Do you want quality or just plain quantity to make up the figures.

  7. kempret Says:

yup……..heard it from ppl, books, n the ppl who believe in it…..
cannot quit..if not u r a sinner (based on what i hear from my muslim frens), even worse, in conservative places, u shall be stoned to death unless you ‘repent’ and return (read it from a magz about an afghan man seeking international refuge because his community wanna give him death penalty for changing religion) i say, it’s a strategy to keep and increase their number in this world…

  8. Smiley Says:

The government of Malaysia wants to make a state religion? I am opposed to that. My religion, Islam, says that people have a right to decide whether to believe and go to heaven, or disbelieve and go to hell. I’m glad there is no state religion here in America.

  9. Affan Says:

I clearly think that conversion to other religions from Islam should not be condemned to death as some countries do because in the Quran it clearly says that there should be no compulsion in religion. Also there is another verse which says there will be grave penalty given by Allah to those who leave, but this is between Allah and the person who converts.

  10. soicay Says:

i am a Muslim i allowed to convert to Christan, or Jewish, i am a Shia Ismali Muslim we were taught in pluralism all religions are good they all abide by almost all the same rules not to kill not to sin etc. remember the Koran says between you and Allah if a Muslim kills another Muslim that converted that Muslim who killed the converted Muslim has done a grave sin and should be punished. All my teachers and my parents said that no matter what religion you are as long as you do good things and do not sin you will go to heaven.

  11. nur ilanah Says:

yes..muslims prohibited from leaving islam…. but then in Malaysia there’s no law for killing people who leaved islam… and that’s a big mistake… don’t you think so?
